3D Laser Projector System combines the advantages of contour templating and computer control to automate the manufacture of complex composite parts that conventionally require extensive hand layup.

The laser projection shows where to place plies, prepregs, or working pieces like balsa core, stiffeners or vacuum pods. This not only increases throughput but also improves quality by reducing errors and manual rework. Whole contours of composite work pieces or the position of single elements like can be displayed.

The Carter Z-Laser special Laser Projector Manager software (LPM) provides complete control of the Laser Projector and can be configured and adapted to any customer needs. Pop-up windows, info fields and buttons can be added, modified or removed according to unique application requirements. It visualizes the interaction of position, projection height and rotation of the object. All projections can be shifted or rotated in all axes. All changes to the projected output are shown graphically on the control screen and are immediately projected onto the material being processed.

The user interface consists of optional interchangeable import modules for current 3D graphical input formats like IGES, DXF, Pro/E or STL. With these software extensions, the data which are relevant for the Laser projection can be manually selected, modified and transferred to the LP-HFD projector. Carter Z-LASER also provides a special import filter for 3D data in the PLY format.

LPM Teach has been developed as an optional import module to digitize contours of work pieces or plies if they are not available as digital construction data. With a projected laser cross, which is moved with the PC mouse along the work piece or ply contour, the x- and y-coordinates of the required pattern are recorded and saved as an HPGL file for re-projection as needed for future production runs.
